Q: What are my food options for the food truck? A: We offer our Hawaiian-style plate lunch. They are full sized meals that include the meat, steamed rice (2 scoops) and macaroni salad (1 scoop). Depending on the number of guests, we usually offer 3-4 options, which include 2-3 meat choices and 1 vegetarian. Please see the food truck menu under the catering tab.
Q: What is the $100 service fee? A: That is what we charge to come out to your event. This includes two hours of FOOD SERVICE (setup and breakdown is not part of FOOD SERVICE). For additional time, the rate is $75/hour after the second hour. For groups over 100 people, extra time will be needed in order for us to accommodate everyone.
Q: Kenji’s minimum for the food truck is 60, what if I don’t have that many guests? A: We can still provide catering, however, we will charge for at least that many. If there are less than 60 guests, the minimum dollar amount agreed upon must be met.
Q: What if I confirmed with Kenji’s that I have 100 people and only 90 showed up to my party? A: Client agrees to pay for the number of attendees listed on the invoice or discussed in email. This includes those individuals accounted for in the final attendance that do not attend. No adjustment will be made for guests accounted for in the final head counts that do not attend.
Q: We are having an event where the guests will purchase their own food. Will Kenji’s will be able to bring their food truck out for our event? A: We only book the food truck if it’s paid in full by a host (private party) or company (employee event).
Q: Our event is in Carson City/Lake Tahoe, are you able to bring your truck out here? A: We do not travel outside of Reno/Sparks. We can provide catering pickup from our restaurant.
Q: I have anywhere from 100-125 people coming to my party. How should I confirm my numbers to Kenjis? A: In order for us to bring enough food, please confirm your estimated higher count. It is out of our control if you confirm for 100, but then 125 people show up.
Q: I have guests that have gluten allergies, what can they eat? A: The kalua pork is gluten-free. It’s the only menu item not cooked with soy sauce (wheat). As for a side, they can order it with all rice and NO macaroni salad.
Q: I have vegetarian guests, what can they eat? A: Our spicy tofu stir-fry is vegetarian/vegan. They can order it with all rice and NO macaroni salad (contains tuna/eggs).
Q: Are drinks included? A: No, drinks are an additional $2+tax.
Q: During the summer months the fires can be really smokey and unhealthy. What if we have to move my outdoor event indoors? A: In lieu of the food truck, we can do tray catering. If there is enough notice, we can switch over and do pickup (or delivery) from the restaurant instead.
Q: What if because of the fires, we decide to just cancel our whole event? A: The deposit is fully refundable if either client or Kenji’s need to cancel for the safety of their employees or event patrons.
Q: We are having an event where other businesses are nearby or we share the same parking lot. How will Kenji’s know if they are from our group? A: We have no way to know if guests are indeed from our group unless the client provide tickets. We can then provide your guests a meal in exchange for a ticket (or they can show us their ID badge for a meal, etc.).
Q: We have an extremely large group (100+) of warehouse workers but everyone only has a 30 minute lunch break. How can we go about providing them lunch? A: Unfortunately, we are not magicians and can't cook at the speed of light. In the food truck, we try our hardest to get meals expedited, but if it’s a large group trying to eat all at once, we recommend tray catering from the restaurant. Another option is to schedule your workers to come out in smaller groups. We schedule for at least two hours. There is enough time if groups are sent out in waves.
Q: What do we need to provide? A: Just hungry folks! We provide the forks, napkins, and boxes.
CATERING - RESTAURANT
Q: Where do we pick up our order? A: We are located on the corner of Longley Lane and E. Peckham Lane at 3940 Spring Drive Suite 6. We're next to the Quickie Mart.
Q: For tray catering, what does that entail? A: We charge per head rather than by the tray size. The prices start at $13.95/head which includes steamed rice (2 scoops per person), macaroni salad (1 scoop per person), and your choice of meat. For example, the Hawaiian BBQ chicken serving size is approximately two thighs per person.
Q: Since you are closed on Saturdays and only do so for catering, what is your requirements? A: We require a 30 person minimum. Prices start at $13.95/head plus tax. Payment required before pick up. Please see menu under catering tab.
Q: What if I want to do something other than macaroni salad as the side? A: You can substitute the macaroni salad for spring mix salad (wonton topping and oriental dressing) at no additional charge. However, if you’d like to offer an ADDITIONAL side to the macaroni salad, the spring mix salad is $3.50/head. This is a great option when wanting to offer more food for your guests!
Q: How do I keep my food hot at my party? A: We recommend keeping the food in your oven until you are ready to serve. The food will be picked up piping hot, so even leaving it in your oven on the off setting is fine until you’re ready. We recommend picking up sterno/chafer setups from your local store, or we offer stainless steel ones for rent at $15/set which includes the stand, pan, lid, and gel fuel. We ask for a $25 cash or check deposit for each setup. Once they are returned to our restaurant the following week, your deposit will be returned to you.
Q: Do you offer catering outside of regular business hours? A: We are open Monday through Friday 10am-8pm. We offer catering on Saturdays, subject to availability. Do you have a night crew to feed? Yes, we can accommodate you! We offer after-hours catering. Please contact us for more info.
Q: How much advance notice do you need? A: If this is for a pickup during regular business hours, we usually need just 1-2 days advance notice depending on the number of guests. Saturday pickup is always subject to availability.
Q: Do you deliver? A: We don't use any third party delivery companies. With enough notice (fee and minimum), we will try our best to accommodate you!
